Thursday, December 10, 1998 Bahia Zihuatanejo Gday We have made yet another stop on our way to Acapulco. This time it is a social visit. It turns out that DJ and Michael have some mutual friends that happen to be in the area. So instead of keeping our southerly course, STARSHIP pulled into this lovely little bay, which is about 6 miles southeast of very built up Ixtapa. The weather calmed down substantially last night, making for a very smooth ride. Much of my two-hour watch was spent watching and listening to four Bottlenose dolphins that decided to keep me company. They put on quite the show, with the moon making their aerial and underwater acrobatics visible. It was as if the four had just come out of Seaworld as they often did their tricks in unison. What a fabulous world we live in. DJ relieved me at 04:00 and due to the nights entertainment, falling into a slumber was very easy. Halfway through my sleep Michael awoke me with good news. A dear friend was on the satellite phone from Italy with the good news that his lovely wife had just born them a son. Ahhhh. This obviously made my day and possibly slightly broody. We may be having the time of our life, but there are plenty of you out there doing just the same. Good on you Evy and Phillip! Anyways, on to this charming little Zihuatanejo. It is small little bay with palm trees all around the waterfront. Behind it are hills with the obligatory condominiums and hotels set in them. The "landscaping" has been done with a little thought for the natural beauty of the surroundings. It seems like the development of the area has taken into account the locals a little by keeping some of the quaintness of the old fishing village. Tomorrow we will be leaving this bay behind and finishing the last leg for Acapulco, assuming we do not stop anywhere on the way. A bit of a short journal today, but you get that on the big jobs at times. The bestest regards to you all. Rich |
