Saturday, December 19, 1998 in Guatemalan waters
Gday
The blue and calm waters of the Pacific give us absolutely no indication that Christmas
is just round the corner. There are no sweet carols sung no decorations and no typical
Christmas smells in the air. Instead, the dolphins play in our bow wave and each day is
much like the next. Early this morning there was a slight change though. I took down the
Mexican flag and hoisted the Guatemalan in respect. Though again, you would never know
that we are in waters "belonging" to a different country. Borders seem to have
little meaning in the ocean.

As a courtesy we raised the Guatemalan Flag, even though we never formally entered
their waters
(you can also see our beautiful ZODIAC with the two 75hp four-stroke HONDAS)
The conditions today have been near perfect. Slight following seas and a cloudless sky.
The Bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) that accompanied us today were
probably the biggest we have seen to date. One must have been over 3m (9) long.
Saturday is my day off, but I thought I would just fill you in briefly on where we are. I
wish you all a top weekend.
Best regards
Rich
