Saturday, January 02, 1999 Underway to Golfito
Gday
We are about two hours away from our destination. The last two days have been rather
monotonous really, though quite relaxing. I think we all have tanked up on our sleep a
little as all the days of heavy diving at Cocos took it out of us a little. It is hard I
know, but someone has to do it. The weather on the way has been abominable. Rain, rain and
even more rain. Thats OK if you are a duck, but a bit of pain for your average human
on a boat. The rain also reared the head of an ugly problem again leakage. This
time we found that drops of rain water has been leaking through the window wipers (of all
places) directly into the heart of ships navigational electronics. By some mere miracle
the water missed all wires of which there are miles and just hit the floor. Once we get
into port we will have to dismantle all the wipers and their mechanisms to properly reseal
them. I guess, that is what new boats are all about...But all in all it has been a
very easy start to the New Year.

Since nothing much happened today, we take the liberty to show you an stillimage of
a video of an small octupus we took a couple of days ago at Isla de Cocos.
The plan for us is to keep the boat in Golfito for a few days and do some terrestrial
excursions, which may include a little river rafting! Yes, something completely different
for a change. I look forward to seeing the jungle and all its animal inhabitants,
particularly the White-faced monkeys. Should be a blast. John and Niki will fly out of
Golfito on Monday. It has been excellent having both of them on board. I hope to entice
John to give you a brief summary of what he has seen and done on the island tomorrow. Not
that you think that he has been putting his feet up over the festive period.
Take care everyone.
Regards
Rich
