G’day land lubbers

Here we are, hidden away from the dreaded northerly winds that have been predicted for the next few days. We did well last night to head for the mainland. Playa del Carmen provided us with a most comfortable night anchorage. From our vantagepoint the town looked like package holiday heaven, not quite my scene really. Late this morning we weighed anchor and headed south with the winds that have in fact blown up somewhat. Though not quite to the 30 Knots that many were expecting. Our agent in Cozumel suggested we try Puerto Aventuras as it grants excellent protection and is in striking distance to Tulum and a few other worthy cultural destinations, not to mention some killer cenote (sink hole) diving.

As we pulled close to the marina, the port captain (Geraldo), who guided us into the tricky and shallow entrance, greeted us. Once tied up we were made to feel like long lost friends. Geraldo provided us with tourist maps as well as his own and even arranged for a rental car in case we needed it. With his expert guidance we now have a plan for tomorrow. At the crack of dawn all of us will head for the ruins at Tulum and then some cavern/cave diving. Should be a blast if we ever had one.

Your suggestions for another name for Albrecht are very much appreciated. Al and Albert seem to be heading the race so far. Though appropriate, you must admit they are not that adventurous. A guy that has now let himself be guided into the deep by yours truly without any cajoling and happens to be DJ’s father does deserve a very ingenious and special English name.

So I shall leave you to it and make a final decision tomorrow. Until then, we wish you well.
