Friday, January 29, 1999 Underway to Cuba
Gday all
As I try to put this missive together, I am being thrown around the cabin by the waves
that are banging almost head on into STARSHIP. What is it with the Atlantic guys? To be
honest I am quite sick of it. It has been ages since we have even had a slightly clam sea.
The good news is that we are heading toward Marina Hemmingway, which is in Havana. We
should arrive there before 17:00 (5pm) tomorrow evening. Up until then the weather gods
seem to be throwing some of their more uncomfortable goods our way.

Sunset looking back towards Mexiko
The winds are actually not all that strong at 15 Knots, but with the current coming
from the west and the wind from the east, the seas tend to stand up and make the 8-9
waves stand up and shake us around. Our ten knot speed in the water plus an almost two
knot current is pushing STARSHIP along at a breakneck speed of about 11-11.5 knots over
ground. Typing in this slop is rather tedious. For every word I try to write I need to
make a least two corrections, most annoying indeed.
So in short I am sure you will excuse me if I sign off for now and report back once we
get to Havana.
Best regards,
Rich
