Tuesday May 4, 1999   - enroute to Salinopolis, Brazil

As Michael already told you all, we have started our trip further south yesterday late in the afternoon. Although moving against current we are making good time and have an average speed of 7.5 knots.

So far, the weather really has not been too bad, except for a lot of rain during the night and most of today.

Heavy rain squalls and some gusty winds of up to 35 knots were chasing us of today (Photo taken at 11:00am)

The winds have mostly been calm with gusty moments   and yet we are getting rocked around by 8 to 10 foot swells in a very confused sea. That of course limits things we can do, which gives crew plenty of time to read up and get new information on some of our upcoming destinations, in great books that Michael brought back with him.

Sometime late tomorrow evening we should be crossing the equator. So that is staring to cause for a little bit of excitement amongst the crew, since it is the first time for almost everyone on board, at least while traveling an o boat in the middle of the ocean.

Well, I better go know. I'm sure you can imagine what it must be like trying to type while riding a gentle roller coaster, but you will hear from us again tomorrow.

Until then, take care
